Overview

RIISS00055 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set provides the skills and knowledge for personnel responsible for traffic management on a site to implement a work zone traffic management plan in the immediate vicinity of a workplace. This program is suited to those who have traffic controller experience and wish to further their career within the traffic control/management industry.

The course encompasses identifying safety implications of traffic control at road works and personal responsibilities; setting up, monitoring, and closing down traffic control devices according to legislative requirements; operating a two-way radio correctly and effectively; and checking, cleaning, and storing equipment on completion of work and closing down a TGS/TMP. It additionally covers locating and applying required legislations, documentation, policies, and procedures including documentation required for worksite projects and required traffic management.

This course does not qualify a participant to control traffic with a stop/slow bat or boom gate or to modify existing traffic control plans.

Course Content

  • Identify safety implications of traffic control at road works and personal responsibilities
  • Set up, monitor and close down traffic control devices according to a nominated TGS/TMP, to WHS and legislative requirements
  • Operate a two-way radio correctly and effectively
  • Check, clean and store equipment on completion of work and close down a TGS/TMP
  • Know the basic function of the TGS/TMP system
  • Locate and apply required legislations, documentation, policies and procedures including documentation required for worksite projects and required traffic management
  • Locate and apply required legislation, regulations, codes and procedures including Austroads Codes of Practice and WHS applicable to temporary traffic management
  • Adapt to all work health and safety (WHS) and operational requirements
  • Use the site/location assessment, distinguish topographical landmarks and carry out authorised risk control
  • Conduct an onsite check of a TGS/TMP to identify any unexpected risks/hazards
  • Plan for emergencies that may arise
  • Ensure spacing between signs and traffic control devices is in line with a TGS/TMP
  • Understand speed, environment, type and class of vehicles, traffic density, sight lines, environmental conditions, weather patterns and surface type
  • Maintain traffic incident reports
  • Monitor traffic controllers

Course Requirements

Participants must be at least 17 years to take this course, hold white card and 100 points I.D. are required on the day of the course. (IMPORTANT: If participant fails to provide 100 points I.D. on the day of course, participant will not be allowed to attend the course, a $50 reschedule will be charged to book another course date).

Participant must wear appropriate PPE (eg. long pants, long sleeve shirt and closed shoes (preferably work boots), hard cap).

LLN (language, literacy and numeracy)

  • This course combines plain English, photos, and questioning to ensure all learners are able to have the best possible chance at comprehending the required knowledge and skills. language, literacy and numeracy that are essential to performance.
  • LLN ((language, literacy and numeracy) skills will be assessed prior to entry to the course.

Assessment

Assessment will confirm knowledge and skills have been achieved to demonstrate competency across the unit. Assessment will be in accordance with the Principles of Assessment and the Rules of Evidence.

Participant are offered multiple opportunities to demonstrate knowledge and skills throughout the course. If a student is not successful in completing all assessments satisfactorily, they will need to rebook the course at the full course fee.

Volume of learning:

One day training and theory assessment in form of:

  • written theory questions
  • case study scenarios
  • practical skills demonstration

One day practical assessment (assess by SafeWork NSW accredited assessor)

  • Participant will need to attend a live practical assessment (please book the assessment here) once all the classroom training has been completed. The assessment will be conducted in a simulated workplace using full scale devices in a controlled and safe environment, it will take around 4 hours.

Certification

On successful completion of this course, participants will be issued with:

  • Statements of Attainment in
  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIRIS301E Apply risk management process
  • RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plans
  • RIIWHS303 Position, set-up and program portable traffic control devices
  • SafeWork NSW Statement of Completion (SOC) allow participants to carry out supervised work in Traffic Control Industry immediately, Statement of Completion (SOC) is valid for 90 days during which participants must have their final practical assessment completed
  • SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training Card, issued by SafeWork NSW once all assessments been completed. Note: SafeWork NSW TCWT card may take up to four weeks to arrive in the post from SafeWork NSW

USI

All participants doing nationally recognised training from January 1, 2015 need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Cancellation Policy

We are unable to refund monies for students who do not turn up for classes or decide later after booking that they do not want to attend. Changes to class times are allowed, but not within 48 hours of the class commencing.
